EUSEW Awards deadline extended to 16 March

09/03/2015

The deadline for applications for the Sustainable Energy Europe Awards has been extended to March 16. EU-funded projects are encouraged to participate in the competition, which is open to eligible private companies, public authorities, energy agencies, NGO’s, cooperatives, chambers of commerce, industry and consumer associations, media, academic institutions and research and technological centres.

Launched by the European Commission in 2006, the Awards recognise the efforts and achievements of outstanding sustainable energy projects, and showcase them as best-in-class practices. This helps to boost replication and inspire new alliances in support of the EU's energy and climate objectives.

Nominees and winners will benefit from communications support and increased visibility to stakeholders, the press and the general public. Articles and videos will present them as innovation leaders and role models in sustainable energy. The winners will be announced in a ceremony to take place in Brussels during EUSEW 2015.

The three categories in this 9th edition of the awards are: renewable energy; energy efficiency; and cities, communities and regions. The first category awards projects that substitute fossil fuels with renewable energy, and substantially reduce CO2 emissions through the innovative integration of renewable energy sources into local energy economies. The energy efficiency category covers actions addressing sustainable energy in buildings, products and processes, including transport. Finally, the third category recognizes actions taken by cities, regional or local public authorities and/or energy agencies to address sustainable energy (including clean transport), aiming to achieve or exceed Europe’s 2020 climate and energy objectives.
