The ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) project is an international initiative to explore the potential of fusion energy  – the process of fusing together light atoms, such as hydrogen, at extremely high temperatures and elevated pressures – as a sustainable solution to Europe's and the world's energy needs.
