Electricity storage has been identified as a critical technology for the transition to a more sustainable energy system and its operation. The Council of the European Union recommended in its conclusion on the SET-Plan that the scope and opportunity for dedicated actions at the European level on Electricity Storage is investigated.
In this context, a workshop is organized by the industry led European Task Force on Energy Storage, launched in the context of the SET-Plan activities and facilitated by the European Commission's Information System of the SET-Plan (SETIS).
Its main purpose is to formulate a relevant and comprehensive message to the European Commission regarding its potential actions in the field of storage. Its outcome will then be used by the European Commission for planning and coordinating actions in connection with the Energy Storage for the next years.
The workshop was organised in two parts: the morning plenary session (chaired by R. Liberali, Deputy Director General of DG RTD), followed by 4 parallel afternoon sessions:
- Assessment of the new needs for Energy Storage in Europe (split in two sessions);
- European Energy Storage Technology strategy;
- Regulation;
- Economics / Risk management
